Indiabulls is India's leading retail financial services company. With approximately 8,000 concurrent investors logged on to the Indiabulls online share trading network at any given time, there is absolutely no room for error. During peak loads, the Oracle 9i database receives approximately 1,50,000 queries per minute. In migrating this mission critical application and database infrastructure from HP Tru64 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux running on x86 servers, Indiabulls has achieved 10 times more performance at less than half the cost.

When regulations mandated that Indian banks be fully computerized by December 2004, Central Bank of India knew they must find a solution optimized for scalability and focused on ease of support and maintenance. After some testing, Linux was clearly the best choice, with Red Hat as the partner. CBI has now implemented the Red Hat solution across 1,115 branches, with 1,770 additional branches planning to deploy Linux in 2004.

The Government of Maharashtra case study illustrates why Linux and other open source programs are gaining popularity with governments, the world over. The use of Linux, open source software and commodity hardware has helped GoM provide "Anytime, Anywhere, Anyhow," access to more than one million citizens while keeping a tight leash on administrative expenses. Various e-governance initiatives like Treasury Management, Citizen Facilitation Centers, Document Journey Management System and the Land Records Management System have been deployed on the Red Hat Linux platform. With the amazing success of these Open Source projects, as a policy, the Government has decided to develop all new applications on Linux.

When UTI Bank decided to setup a state of the art call center, it was looking for a robust platform that could guarantee high availability of services and ensure uninterrupted call traffic. By selecting Red Hat Enterprise Linux to power its infrastructure on low cost Intel servers, UTI Bank has received immense freedom to dynamically scale up its resources as the call volume expands. It has been one year since the call center has been up and running, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux together with Red Hat Cluster Suite have delivered 99.99% uptime so far, handling volumes of over 7000 calls per day.

Canara Bank's TBA modernization project marks the largest deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux in the Indian BFSI segment till date. Red Hat Enterprise Linux will power mission critical banking services on approximately 1,000 servers and 10,000 desktops in Canara Bank's branches across the country. In migrating its TBA application from a legacy Novell Netware environment to Enterprise Linux, Canara Bank has managed to improve system performance by more than 8 times.

Airtel is India's largest GSM mobile services provider. The telecommunications giant has setup the nation's largest televoting system on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which handles millions of SMSes generated by viewers of popular reality TV shows - Kaun Banega Crorepati & Indian Idol. Whenever an open contest is aired on KBC and Indian Idol, millions of viewers send an SMS in a short span of just 3-4 minutes. The Enterprise Linux servers have been handling this mission critical SMS load for ten months at a stretch without a single instance of slowdown or downtime. The servers have outperformed all throughput tests - turning many UNIX fans at Airtel into strong Open Source believers.

Yatra has been able to offer packaged deals, customized offerings to different segments of customers after the deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Yatra has achieved near 100 per cent uptime at its call center.
